My grandfather was very involved with the May Day celebrations in New Westminster from the early 1930s until the mid-sixties. The list of videos on the right are in chronological order and can be viewed by clicking on the year you wish to see, Windows Media player is required. 1939 was a very special year with the King and Queen visiting Canada and New Westminster. The film is in color and has some amazing images.
These videos were transferred from 16 mm film to a computer format, then edited into streaming videos complete with period music and posted on the Internet. I use a system called Typepad for the web pages and Screencast or YouTube to deliver the videos.
There are additional videos at two related sites, click here for more recent May Day films or click here for more vintage historic films.
